Umbusi's Blog 18 of 2019 | The Power of Saying No

Its the proverbial two letter word, often undesirable when you desperately need something or someone to help you. No, the definate and unmistakable No. Artists have performed songs on it, knowledge merchants like myself prize it as one of the tools of personal mastery. No is powerful, because until you actually say no, you have not really decided what it is you want or do not want in your life. You need to say no often, to a job offer that seems dodgy and whose terms and conditions seem to be vying for your heart and soul. When you care for someone, say no to something they want, because they do not need it. Saying no, in almost all circumstances, is actually saying yes to yourself. Umbusi's Blog 17 of 2019 | An Attitude of Gratitude by Umbusi Ziqalo

Celebration Friday: An Attitude of Gratitude comes from a deep sense "i am enough, i therefore have enough" It is a product of a balanced and progressive thinking or mindset. Such a belief system is rare nowadays, where people are more fiends than friends, more hostile than hosting. Let us celebrate the week that was, and the weekend that beckons. Umbusi's Blog 16 of 2019| The Power of Professional Conduct on Emails

You have probably heard about the principle from the game of chess, called "A Touch is a Move" This principle among others, is a True North, when it comes un-answered and non-actioned emails. Email professionalism, and I dare say, even including WhatsApp Texts between you and your clients, is grossly underrated. Many a company, business services and freelancers will promise you the world, and yet they cannot even respond to your email or text. How disciplined are you when it comes to "response etiquette" ? Umbusi's Blog 15 of 2019 | The Ego of Leadership when Opposed by Team Members by Umbusi Ziqalo

Image
The Art and Science of Leadership by Umbusi Ziqalo The id, The Ego and The Super-Ego It seems that whenever you mention the word Ego, everyone seems to think, Naah... not me, I dont have that problem.  Some leaders even go to the extent of mentioning other leaders who are infected by this leprosy of an oversize Ego. However, Ego to leaders needs to be guarded, especially in how leaders treat those who are under their charge. How do you respond to a team leader who passionately challenges your views as a leader? do you begin to cringe and resent the small insect who doesn't know who you really are? After all, who does the team member think he is, to challenge a mighty leader such as yourself, who has conquered many a corporate battle? The litmus test of a healthy ego in a leader as powerful as yourself, is; "How do you treat those, who do not agree with you, even though they are lower in rank than you?" |Umbusi Ziqalo is an Author| Speaker| Thought-Leader...

Umbusi's Blog 13/2019| Professional Thursday| 10 Characteristics of Professionalism by Gina Piccirilli

Image
Professional Thursday Make this the year you shine  By Gina Piccirilli, CPC, CPMA Being a professional in your chosen field means much more than just holding a college degree and donning a business suit. The way in which you conduct yourself is also a key component of your success. Here are 10 characteristics true professionals possess in the workplace (not in any order of importance). 1. A Neat Appearance A professional is neat in appearance. Pay attention to detail to help you meet or exceed the requirements of your company’s dress code. Pay extra attention to your appearance when you meet with potential clients. Look sharp and organized: Iron your clothes, polish your shoes, and practice good hygiene and grooming.  2. Proper Demeanor Your demeanor should express confidence, but not attitude. Be polite and well-spoken 100 percent of the time. Whether you’re speaking with customers, superiors, or co-workers keep calm and be tactful, even in tense situations...

LEADERSHIP WEDNESDAY What Leadership is NOT ? by Umbusi Ziqalo Leadership is not a Title Leadership is not a Birthright Leadership is not Education Leadership is not Success or Wealth Leadership is not Authority over Others Leadership is not the Ability to Convince Others, but your Own Inner-Conviction Leadership is not the Promotion(Professional or Religious), neither is it the Power and the Perks that come with the new higher position you now occupy Leadership self-discovery, it cannot be appointed, voted-in or head-hunted, it is born out of a personal process of transformation, you cannot be appointed by another human being to lead, you were sent to planet earth to discover your leadership The point immediately above this one needs further unpacking, you see, being appointed, voted-in, headhunted or promoted into a certain position, does not make you a leader.  What it does in the interim is set you apart based on your visible natural...

However, we are seldom taught, cajoled and rewarded for metamorphic-ability, hence we do not practice it habitually, but instead we are more habitually resting in the Comfort Zone. In this Teaching, i would like to give you the pointers for being professional on WhatsApp. 1) The Golden Rule of all written communication is: “A Touch is A Move” Do not open your WhatApp unless you intend reading and responding. 2) Avoid abbreviations like Leprosy: Shorthand in an written communication is a no! no! Umbusi's Blog | The Power of Feedback

Blog 2/2019 PERSONAL MASTERY TUESDAY:  The Power of Feedback Balanced feedback gives others information on what they are doing effectively (performance and behaviors) and on what they could do differently to better meet expectations, to be more effective, or to improve future performance results. There are several benefits to providing feedback in a balanced way. 1) A focus on one or two important issues 2) A balance of praise and constructive criticism 3) Addressing issues within the recipient’s control (something they can do something about) 4) Interactive (done in a way that encourages two-way communication focused on problem solving). #UmbusiGlobalLeadershipSpeakerCo is a division of Resilience Group cc  Follow My BLOG: umbusi.blogspot.com umbusionline.wordpress.com
