Umbusi's Blog 34 of 2019| Managers are not leaders and leaders are not managers
Managers are not Leaders, and leaders are not managers.
Definitions:
1) Managers by definition are concerned with maintenance of the status quo, x-amount of resources that are spent according to agreed budget . To A Manager, Profit comes before People.
2) Leaders are concerned with the development of people, with the sole purpose of creating a space or platform for those people to migrate from Victimhood to Victorhood. To a leader, profit comes because of people.
3) People who are managed are Victims
Victims by their nature are:
✖they need instructions
✖they don't take Innitiative
✖they blame others
✖they are never wrong
✖they have haters
✖they are demotivated
✖they are proud
✖they have no energy
✖they are not ready for work
✖they are never punctual
✖they do not have journals for reflection
✖they have a negave attitude
✖they have self-entitlement
✖they hate the uniform
✖they have no integrity
NB:
Managers, historically, were created during the Industrial Revolution, to Manage (Control) such kind of people, who at the time had no clue about the Company trying to make a profit through their labour.
They needed to be kept in line like machines.
4) People who are led are Victors
Victors are Leaders, and by their nature are:
they are self-instructed
they take Innitiative
they take responsibility
they are accept being wrong
they have champions
they are self-motivated
they are humble
they have high energy
they are ready for work
they are punctual
they have journals for reflection
they have a positive attitude
they have a high work ethic
they take pride in their uniform
they have high integrity
NB:
Leadership is the ultimate purpose for which you were sent to planet earth. You were designed to lead, and be lead, not to manage and be managed.
Conclusion:
Management is not Leadership. It is by nature designed to control.
Even though we use this term at work, and we SHOULD continue using It, it must be borne in mind that, we are called upon the do the following as Managers:
1) Manage Things
👉🏾Time & Opportunities
👉🏾Budget & Profit
👉🏾Equipment & Tools
NB: People are not things.
2) Lead People
📌Recruit for Attitude
📌Align for Genius
📌Train for Skill
📌Coach for Mastery
📌Mentor for Succession
📌Give Feedback for Growth
📌Discipline for Love
📌Motivate for Consistency
📌Model for Legacy
This is the difference between:
MANAGEMENT
vs
LEADERSHIP
