Umbusi Blog 44 | You are not your natural faculties

The Homosapien (Latin for Wise-Man), has been known like this for more than 250 years. Humans are often asked what they are, in the final analysis, what is their core?

You are not your biological fuculties. Let's look at what i call the five levels of humanity.

Leve1 - The Emotional Faculty
(World of Simulus, Sense Receptors, and Reactions)

a) Humans possess five senses
These are triggers of your emotional faculty (touch, taste, sight, smell, hearing). The senses basically receive stimuli from your environment, and generally followed by a reaction. 

You are not your emotions. Meaning, Don't do things based on the force of emotion, the force of habit.

b) Humans possess a higher order sense
You are defined therefore, by your choices, your higher order faculties of judgement and discretion.  The greater sense called discernment, being able to not react, and do wrong, but to stop yourself and do right.

After some time, this quality decision, repeated again and again, becomes a habit, a ritual, and a higher order legacy is secure.

Level 2 - The Intuitive Faculty
(Intuition - The subtle resevior of experiences and ready-for-action type of wisdom)

Humans possess a higher power than emotions, a level of discretion, called intuition, or the sixth sense. The difference between discretionary choice and intuitive choice, is that discretion is based on right or wrong, and intuition is based on past and proven experiences.

The Intuitive Faculty is a reservoir of dormant and subtle experiences, past decisions and wisdom, which is triggered into the fore of remembrance and feeling, called the gut feel, by the familiar experiences of the present, similar to those of the future.

The Mixture of Discretion (active decisiveness based on the present factors) and Intuition (inactive but readily available wealth of experience), is a powerful faculty that could be chosen by humans, as they stop themselves from reacting to stimuli.

You are not therefore, your past experiences, but you are the choices you make now, impacting the future. Carl Gustav Jung once said that "I am not what happened to me, but i am what i choose to become."  You are not your past.

Level 3 - The Faculty of Data and Facts (Proximity to Information)
Human beings possess the ability to collect. In the olden days we were gatherers wood, diggers of stone and metals, hunters, and nomads.

This faculty of exploration and wonder, is fully integrated into our human constitution.  We are researchers by default, and our very nature is "fact finding"

We may be many things, but we are fascinated by facts, be they truth or not, we prize and value information. We are not however, defined by the facts and data we possess.

The best and the worst among us, is no superior nor inferior, based on the data they possess. You are not what you know.

Level 4 - The Faculty of Knowledge and Insights
In level four, humans are introduced to a higher level of facts and data, the world of processed, tried and tested information. The world of how to get information, the institution that is supposed to teach you how to learn.

It is unfortunate that most of school, teaches you the "what" of information, and not the how and they why, and definitely not the who and the now of information.

As i write this blog, the world over has a challenge of unemployable graduates. You are not what you have learned from school. You are not the educational accolades.

Level 5 - The Non-Biological Faculty of Awareness (The World of Choice, Connectedness, Ecosystems and Networks).
Externally, Human beings find their audience and full recognition at the level of genius.

Internally, human beings rise to what Abraham Maslow refered to as Transcendence. He said that this level goes beyong self actualization, into behaving and relating as a human being, for reasons beyond yourself gain. 

When you become aware of the reason you were sent to planet earth, for the advancement of humanity, for the betterment of the future generations, you are finally in economy of altruism. You are a Spiritual Being.

At the core, you are spiritual. You are called to serve your genius. You are your genius.
